Procables has participated in the program, which has been conducted annually in Colombia by the District Environmental Secretariat, since 2009. Representatives from the company accepted the award in December 2014 at the 14th annual PREAD award ceremony where Procables ranked first among the 90 participating companies.

“We recognize that our business has an impact on the environment, and to reduce this impact, we incorporate responsible practices into our daily business operations,” said Carlos Gonzalez, General Manager of General Cable, Colombia and President of Procables.

Preserving the environment through the reduction of energy consumption, the elimination or substantial decrease of the use of hazardous materials, as well as recycling is part of our continuous improvement culture, from the design of our products to the operations at our manufacturing sites. Understanding these concerns, Procables continuously seeks innovative ways to improve its processes to prevent and control its impact on the environmental, guarantee sustainable uses of natural resources and further promote environmental responsibility among all of its employees, suppliers and contractors.

The PREAD award encourages Colombian companies in the city of Bogotá to continue to work to foster sustainability and continue their commitment toward environmental protection. Further, the award is intended to promote continuous improvement in environmental performance through self-management and self-regulation strategies.

The award has four levels. Through participation and an ongoing commitment to PREAD, Procables has received awards from every level in the program:

  • Level I: Acceptance of an established environmental program
  • Level II: Moving toward environmental excellence
  • Level III: Environmental excellence creating sustainable development
  • Level IV: Elite in the creation of sustainable development
